Is Semaglutide safe?
Semaglutide is a compounded formulation of GLP-1, glucagon-like peptide, that was approved in 2017 under the name Ozempic® as a treatment for improving glycemic control in patients with Type 2 diabetes. In June 2021, Semaglutide was approved by the FDA for non-diabetic weight loss and has been used since then to help people lose weight and keep it off. However, Semaglutide shouldn’t be taken by children under the age of 18 and should only be taken under medical supervision. Brand names are Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus.
Studies have demonstrated that Semaglutide reduced appetite, improved control of eating, and reduced food cravings in addition to improved blood sugar levels. The greatest weight loss benefits were observed when Semaglutide was used in combination with lifestyle changes, such as improved diet and consistent exercise.
Are there side effects?

Who is a candidate for Semaglutide?
The ideal patient would have a BMI of 30 or a BMI of 27 with co-morbidities.
Patients who are not a candidate for Semaglutide are patients who have a history of medullary thyroid cancer, and patients who have a personal or family history of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome – type 2 or those with a history of acute or chronic Pancreatitis.
